How have you been?

안부

Beginner 2 opens with 안부 — checking in. Past tense lets you talk about yesterday and last weekend, not just what you do every day.

10 words6 sentencesGrammar: -았/었-15 min

Today’s goal

-았/었- past polite

Drop 다 from the dictionary form. If the last vowel is ㅏ or ㅗ, add -았어요 (가다 → 갔어요). Other vowels take -었어요 (먹다 → 먹었어요). 하다 becomes 했어요. This is the same split as present -아요/어요, just with 았/었 in the middle. 잘 지냈어요? is How have you been — the natural follow-up after 안녕하세요.
